Medical Study Confirms Vedic Perspective, “Life Exists After Death”

Updated: Sep 6, 2020

Find out what Modern Science and Vedic Science has to say about life after death.

World’s largest medical study on NDE (Near Death Experience) and OBE (Out of Body Experience) carried out by the scientists of University of Southampton discovered (Again, centuries after our Rishis who said the same things with a detailed explanation) that “Life Exists After Death”. 2060 cardiac patients were closely examined during the experiment for 4 years before the scientists published their research in journal Resuscitation.

In one of the cases, a 57 year old man was clinically dead for almost 3 minutes. His heart was not pumping for that period of time, nor there was any breathing or brain activity. Then suddenly, he came back to life, and he was able to recall what all happened during those three minutes. When he was clinically dead, then who was noticing everything that was going on near his body? Another very interesting statement given by him was, he was observing his body being operated, from the corner of the room. The entire team of doctors was shocked, because they had no explanation for this. Now this is not only interesting, but also proves that life continues after death.

If this thing is narrated to any person who has studied even a little bit of Hindu Scriptures, or is from a Hindu background, he will be able to reason it and also find many such instances from the scriptures. But for a person having a western perspective will not be able to digest this fact very easily because modern science does not speak anything about life after death.

The Vedic Literatures explain that, it is the Aatma, which is the owner of this body. Different schools of Vedic Science and Philosophy call it by different names such as Aatma, Supreme Consciousness, etc,. But they all refer to the same thing. As long as the soul remains in control of the physical body, the body functions and as soon as the soul’s connection with the body ceases, the body stops functioning.

There are very logical explanations for the existence of aatma in Hindu scriptures. For example, in Srimad Bhagwadgeeta 2.22, Lord Krishna says that, “As a person puts on new garments, giving up old ones, the soul similarly accepts new material bodies, giving up the old and useless one.”

There is another story in Srimad Bhagwatam, in which King Chitraketu, whose little son came back to life after being dead. The King was inconsolable upon seeing his son dead, so sage Narada, just to educate the King about the temporary nature of this perishable body, temporarily bought the child’s soul into the lifeless body. The moment the soul entered, the dead body began exhibiting all the symptoms of life. And the soul through the body of the boy, cleared the misunderstanding of the King and said that, he was not his only father, but he had many fathers and mothers, because since time immemorial, he has been occupying different bodies including plants and animals.

I would like the reader to notice one thing. More the modern science is progressing further, more it is getting back to the vedic roots. Be it internationalization of Yoga, Global acceptance of Ayurveda and vegetarianism or living in harmony with nature. Our sages were actually scientists who have worked in every single field known to man. And we are very fortunate enough, that we are born on this land of knowledge. We have all the wisdom of our ancestors within our blood. All we need to do is re-activate it.

“Let’s bring back the sage’s wisdom by getting back to our roots!”
